0061 - "Aimless Conduct"

 

We Christians continually need to be re-appraising our way of life, and attitude toward the true purpose of what we are about while we are still here on earth. Recently I read again this Scripture: “Knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things like silver and gold from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers” (1 Peter 1:18, NKJV). Those two words, “aimless conduct” jumped out at me, and caused me to think about how we Christians can so easily waste our time. While it is referring to the fact of what life is without Jesus Christ’s redemption, it is nevertheless a challenge to make sure that now we are Christians that we are not guilty of still going through life with “aimless conduct.” Far too many of us are waiting for something to happen, or we make excuses that we are too busy with the children’s education, sports, work commitments, church meetings, etc., that when we do sit down and look at where we have come from, and then try and see where we are going to, there often has not been much attained that will last throughout time into all eternity. In the Western world especially, we have become besotted with entertainment, sports, and other things, that we have almost forgotten that the Christian life is a call to commitment to doing the will of God. We struggle to get motivated to be “out and out” for Jesus ~ which is our very first responsibility once we become born-again Christians. When we are caught up in the doing of the will of God, there is no time for “aimless conduct.” There is always something to do, an opportunity to take for Jesus, an encouraging phone call to make, etc. The needs are everywhere today, and as we will listen to the Holy Spirit ~ with a commitment to obey whatever He says ~ then we will find all sorts of doors opening to us to be “in the right place at the right time with the right message for the right person.” A commitment to Jesus Christ and His will means there is no room for excuses. He is “Number One” and whatever He says goes! That kind of commitment in itself is enough to propel us out of any sort of a life of “aimless conduct.” Walking with the Holy Spirit means that life is exciting, fulfilling and fruitful. There is nothing aimless about it. It is living for Jesus in time, so we will be able to rejoice throughout all eternity and enjoying the fruits of our labours.

 What changes do we need to make in 2006 that will cause us to rise from an aimless existence to that of “bringing forth much fruit” for Jesus? To change means the making of decisions, and then committing to those decisions. It is not wishful thinking, nor is it merely only a matter of passive prayer. It is prayer with faith, and faith is action. Faith does things! It is not aimless, but is very focussed on that which God wants done. May this be the year when you break through into greater things than ever before in the Lord your God. ~ Rodney W. Francis.

  “Almighty God, I come to You in the matchless name of Your Son, Jesus Christ, asking You to reveal to me any part of my life that is aimless, barren and wasted, so that I can rise to higher heights in You and fulfil that glorious destiny You have chosen for me. Deliver me from wasting my time and my life, and help me to turn it into a much more productive vessel for Your praise, honour and glory. Fill me afresh with Your mighty Holy Spirit, so that I can declare the works of God in the earth today. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”
