KNOWING THE WILL OF GOD FOR YOUR LIFE

For many Christians the subject of our knowing the will of God for our lives is often an area of struggling and questioning. But should it be like that? Why have we seemingly made it such a difficult part of our Christian walk? As far as the Scriptures are concerned it is quite plain:

“I beseech (“urge”) you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable (“rational, intelligent”) service. And do not be conformed to this world (“fashioned in the same way as the world”), but be transformed by the renewing (“different from what which was before”) of your mind, that you may prove (“prove by test”) what is that good and acceptable (“well pleasing”) and perfect (“complete, perfect, full, wanting nothing”) will of God” (Romans 12:1-2, NKJV).

In these two verses the Bible lays out the conditions for knowing the will of God very clearly. When we put these principles into practice and simply obey God’s word, we will then come to know the will of God for us. We will know the reason why God’s love has laid a hold of us in Jesus Christ. One of the problems that many Christians have today is that far too often the Christian Church has become so entwined with the ways of the world that people no longer know where the world finishes and the church starts! If we cannot discern the difference between these two opposites, then we will always struggle with knowing God’s plans and intentions for us as individuals. From the time I first clearly heard the voice of God to me personally, I have had a strong desire to know and do the will of God in my life. As a result I have recognized God’s voice to me and that wonderful voice of God has clearly led me into that which He has purposed for me. The fruit of that is that we are now in a privileged position of being able to impact thousands of lives around the world.

  • God’s will for our lives will always be to make us more fruitful in His purposes and to use us to positively influence more lives for Jesus.

The will of God is essentially simple. Why, then, have we made it such a difficult issue in our lives? One reason is that our enemy ~ the devil, and our own negative mindsets ~ have robbed us of being able to interpret the voice of God however and in whatever way it comes to us. To be a follower of Jesus has always involved sacrifice and discipline of self; that is why we have to be born-again by the Holy Spirit, and to take up our cross to follow Jesus. The “old man/woman” has to “die” as it does not comprehend or understand the ways of God. It does not necessarily come by study of theology or church attendance, but it is cultivated out of a personal relationship with Jesus. If we do not have that, then we are only religious. And it is the religious spirit that causes so much damage in Christian circles that it robs so many of knowing God’s will for their lives.

  • What God has purposed for you is exactly right for you, and will fulfil you in a way that nothing else can!

Please take some time to meditate upon the above Scripture. We have to present our bodies to Jesus (no one else can do that for you). We have to present our bodies in such a way that it is holy and acceptable to God (it is according to His standards and requirements, not ours). It is what is expected of us as His disciples. The born-again experience has a large influence on our minds, and we have to work on changing the way we think. That will mean that most things that we have fed our minds on previously will now need to be “weaned out” so that our thoughts become pure and God-glorifying. When we yield our whole lives to the Lordship of Jesus, then He will clearly show us what is His “good and acceptable and perfect will.” How wonderful is that?! What a privilege to know Jesus in such a way we can walk in His will daily, and fulfil a destiny to His glory. When we know His will we will find that it is always easier to make major decisions, for anything that does not come within His will is not the best for us. Be encouraged to know His will today! ~ Rodney W. Francis.

Please Pray This Prayer:

“Dear God, I come to You in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, and I ask You to help me to be really serious about Jesus Christ being Lord of my life, so that I may know Your will clearly and so live for You day by day. Let my love for You grow more and more so that Your claims on my life will be a joy rather than a duty. I ask You to stir me, and liberate me, to be able to be the man/woman of God You have called me to be. Help me to clearly listen to You, Lord Jesus, so that I may distinctly discern Your divine will and purposes. I really do want to know Your will and be an effective and fruitful minister of Your Supernatural Gospel in my day and generation. In Jesus' name, I pray these things. Amen."
