DO WE NEGLECT GOD’S WORDS?

“So Samuel grew, and the Lord was with him and let none of His words fall to the ground”(1 Samuel 3:19, NKJV).

What an amazing statement we have here. No wonder Samuel became the great prophet of God that he did. From the moment he heard and recognized the voice of God in his life, he took hold of it in such a way that he let none of what God said to him fall to the ground. He treasured what God said. He guarded it, remembered it and lived by it. He did not have a casual attitude that allowed him to forget easily the things that God had spoken unto him.

What about us today? What kind of attitude do we have toward the Word of the Lord? Both the “logos” (written) and the “rhema” (spoken) word of God to us? Far too often we have a “lazy attitude” toward the word of the Lord. Is it any wonder, then, that many Christians struggle to know who they are, Who God is, and what is His purpose for us each one individually in this 21st century. If we are going to be effective and successful in our Christian life then we must take a serious approach to that which God says. Samuel held on to every word very carefully. He did not let it fall to the ground, where it would be wasted and lost. God is His Word – both the “logos” and the “rhema.” And He is speaking today through both. The logos is the Bible, the written Word of God. The rhema is the "present time" spoken word of the Lord that comes to us through the prophetic, the gifts of the Holy Spirit, visions, dreams, pictures, other people, in fact in many different ways. It is to our advantage to know the different ways by which God speaks today, so we can grasp a hold of it and gain the many benefits of it.

Samuel was not like many who, five minutes after they hear a prophetic word, they could not tell you what had been said! They let the word of the Lord fall to the ground. They treat it as though it does not matter. The result is that we miss out on so much that God is wanting us to hear and know today. Samuel’s attitude toward the rhema word of God was such that he held on to it very carefully, meditated upon it, acted upon it – and became a great prophet of God.

If we are going to be strong in the Lord, then it is imperative that we have a good, positive attitude to everything that God says. Do not be one that is locked into a narrow mind-set and cannot hear or see God speaking in and through the many other ways He does today. The more we hold on to what God says, the more we will gain the benefits of the outworking of His will in our lives. Once we allow His words to fall to the ground, they become lost to us, and we then become unfruitful because of our carelessness. Let us learn a great lesson from the life of the young Samuel who did let none of God’s words fall to the ground. Guard it with your very life!  – Rodney W. Francis.

Please Pray This Prayer:

“Dear Lord and Almighty God, I come before You today asking that You will forgive me for any lazy, casual and even unbelieving attitude I have had toward the words You speak to me. Help me to be more open-minded as to the various ways You want to reveal more of Yourself to me. Help me to
listen more intently to the prophecies I hear and to those things You have promised me in times past. Forgive me for letting Your words fall to the ground – and therefore become wasted and lost – and help me to take a much more serious approach to that which You say in the future. In Jesus’ name I pray these things, Amen.”
