The Need For More Labourers ~ What About You?

THE NEED FOR MORE LABOURERS!

~ WHAT ABOUT YOU?

We are living in a world that is fast losing all its values. The need is so great for Christians to be rising up and being “the light of the world” that Jesus Christ called us to be (John 8:12 and Matthew 5:14). In Matthew 9:35-38, the Bible declares: “Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the Gospel of the Kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary (“harassed”) and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd. Then He said to His disciples, ‘The harvest truly is plentiful, but the labourers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into His harvest’”.

Notice who Jesus is talking to: the “labourers” are disciples (committed Christians) ~ but it seems they are not committed enough to get more involved in the gathering in of the harvest. Jesus set the example for us to follow in His footsteps. His heart was always for the multitudes of lost people who desperately needed to find answers for their lives. The truth is that no real and lasting answers can be found anywhere else than in the person of Jesus Christ. And that is why it is so important that the Christian Gospel is spread around to all who will listen. In Matthew 10 He commissioned and sent forth His disciples to do the works that He did!

THE HOLY SPIRIT IN OUR LIVES IS POWER FOR SERVICE!

The purpose of receiving the baptism in the Holy Spirit ~ that experience where the Holy Spirit comes into our lives in a much more empowering way ~ is that we can be effective witnesses wherever we go: “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth” (Acts 1:8). To realize the importance of the Bible version of being filled with the Holy Spirit, just compare the disciples of Jesus and the difference He made in their lives before and after that experience of receiving the power of the Holy Spirit (see Mark 16:9-20 and Acts 2:1-4). The Holy Spirit revolutionized their lives and thinking. It turned them from being unbelieving believers into powerful believing believers who went out and “turned the world upside down” (Acts 17:6). There was no place in anywhere in the world where the power of the Holy Spirit could not use them to witness for Jesus Christ.

We need to remind ourselves that Jesus saved us to be “shining lights in a world of darkness” and to make a positive difference in the place where we live, and wherever we go. When we obey the Lord Jesus and do what He asks of us, then He causes us to be His true witnesses and guides us into all kinds of situations where we are able to have opportunities to share His Good News with others. So I need to ask you:

  • What is your involvement in the work of the Lord?

  • What has Jesus saved you for and to be?

  • Have you offered your life to Jesus to be one of His labourers in the harvest today?

  • You will never truly be fulfilled as a Christian until you are functioning in the purpose for which He saved you.

  • If you do not know that purpose yet, offer yourself totally to Him today.

  • “Seek the Lord while He may be found, Call upon Him while He is near”(Isaiah 55:6).

  • There is nothing more fulfilling and satisfying than knowing the will of God and doing it.

More and more today we are receiving testimonies and reports of newly-baptized-in-the-Holy-Spirit-believers who are speaking in tongues and praying for the sick with amazing results. The impact of these things is that scores of people are becoming believers in Jesus Christ and stepping into a whole new life of faith and victory. Just imagine the impact on the whole world if every true believer in Jesus Christ was doing what He taught us to do. We would see whole communities changed for Jesus. Churches would step into what we call revival. Soul-winning churches are vibrant churches, because the people are excited at how the Lord is using them to win others to Him.

If you are one who is not satisfied with the way the Lord is using you, then can I encourage you to take time to seek the Lord earnestly and ask Him to reveal His plans and purposes for your life to you. I am so pleased that I heard the voice of Jesus in my life at a young age, when He called me to the ministry and told me what He wanted me to do. That was over 55 years ago and I have been walking with Jesus ever since, seeking daily to walk in His will. The result is that today we are touching and impacting thousands of lives around the world. And many of those lives we are impacting are touching and impacting many thousands more lives wherever they go. If Jesus longs for every person to be saved and to know Him in a personal way, then how much more should we carry that same burden and desire? The Bible declares: The Lord“is not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9).

A witness of Jesus is a person who has a very real relationship with Jesus Christ, knowing He is alive from the dead and lives inside of us by His mighty Holy Spirit. Our daily living should show forth the fact that Jesus is alive in us ~ so much so that other people will want to know why we are so different. “Quietly trust yourself to Christ your Lord, and if anybody asks why you believe as you do, be ready to tell him, and do it in a gentle and respectful way” (1 Peter 3:15, TLB). Christianity is not about professional training or diplomas on the wall of our houses, but a daily walk with Jesus our very best Friend.

  • He speaks today and, if we will listen to His voice, He will lead and guide us into all sorts of opportunities to share Jesus with others.

The only thing that will stop us from being those bright, living and shining witnesses of Jesus is if we allow the fire of the Holy Spirit to go out within us. Then it is very important that we seek a fresh relationship, experience and encounter with the Living God so we can be those “shining lights in a world of darkness” that He has called us to be. Life is too short for us to be making excuses and/or “putting off until tomorrow what we should be doing today.” Know again that Jesus has saved us all for a purpose and it is so important that we know that purposes and are found fulfilling and doing that which he saved us for. Do not listen to those negative voices that tell you what you cannot do. Listen to the voice of Jesus and know what you can do in and through His name! His power in us gives us all the enabling we need to be able to fulfil our destinies in Jesus Christ as active labourers in His ripened harvest field. Listen again to the words of Jesus: “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the labourers are few.” The Message Bible puts it this way: “What a huge harvest!” He said to His disciples. “How few workers!” On your knees and pray for harvest hands!”

May we all hear the voice of the Holy Spirit leading and guiding us in the fulfilling of Hid purposes for our lives today. God bless YOU! ~ Rodney W. Francis.
