Deliverance From The Pit

DELIVERANCE FROM THE PIT

By Rodney W. Francis

“He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings” (Psalm 40:2).

This was the testimony of David the sweet Psalmist of Israel. It is also the testimony of every person who has come into a right relationship with Jesus Christ. Look at that verse again. Can you accept the great deliverance the Lord has wrought for you?

WE NEED JESUS!

In this article I would like us to consider the need in our lives for the Lord.

  • We need Jesus Christ as Lord of our lives!

Many people cannot see their need for Him! They believe they are alright as they are. But, according to the Scripture, they are “blind,” “in darkness,” and as David declared, “in an horrible pit.” A pit from which there is no escape outside of the Salvation of Jesus Christ!

  • An horrible pit!

WASTING, DESOLATION AND NOISE

The word “horrible” means “wasting, desolation, noise,” and is not this a true picture of life as it is in the world today? The unsaved are wasting their lives on things that have no eternal benefit. They live in desolation, meaning “loneliness” (a real problem of modern living), “separation” (from God and true friendship), “emptiness” (no real vision or purpose for living), and, as a result “wasting” away.

In the midst of all this, there is the constant noise that humanity seems to have to have continually. Transistor radios blaring, mobile phones, i-pads, night club commotions, drinking and drug parties, sporting occasions, etc., are usually all accompanied by plenty of noise. The world cannot stand silence! Noise hides so much of what is lacking inside lost humanity. Noise deadens the conscience!

The tragedy is that people will not admit to the reality of their condition. They enjoy it too much (or so they say they do). The Bible confirms there are “pleasures in sinning” (1 Timothy 5:6 & Hebrews 11:24-25). But notice these are only seasonal; they will not last forever. The time will come for all to leave this earthly scene and to stand before our Maker . . .

THEN WHAT?

Jesus said: “What shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?” (Mark 8:36-37).

  • If Jesus Christ means what He said (and he does), then we need to give every attention to seeing that we do not “lose our own soul.”

To find our soul means to find a way out of the “horrible pit” that David speaks of.

  • But if there is no natural way of escape from that pit, then how can it be done?

  • We have to ask someone who has already been lifted out of that horrible pit. They will all point you to the Lord Jesus Christ, for He is the only One Who can lift you out!

  • And, what’s more, He wants to lift you out. He is more anxious to get you out of that pit than you are.

  • But you must co-operate with Him. You must do what David did.

CRY OUT TO THE LORD

David cried unto the Lord, and the Lord heard his cry. At David’s cry the Lord reached down and lifted him out of that horrible pit . . . out of the miry clay and set his feet upon a Rock; the Lord established his goings. What a change!

Did the Lord really do that for David? Yes, He did! And, what’s more, He wants to do it for you if He has not already done so.

JESUS DIED FOR YOU

This is the reason why Jesus came to die on the Cross for you. His blood had to be shed in order that your sin-stains might be cleansed away. Jesus has already done this for you, but the reality of it does not enter your soul until you cry out unto Him to lift you up out of the mess you are in. When Jesus lifts you out of your pit you will know it without any doubts!

  • Your sinful desires pass away!

  • Your life is changed!

  • Your living takes on meaning and purpose!

  • Your feet are no longer treading in miry clay but are placed squarely and firmly upon the Rock, Christ Jesus!

  • Your goings are established!

  • You are free!

“Therefore if the Son (Jesus Christ) makes you free, you shall be free indeed” (John 8:36, NKJV).

CHRIST OFFERS YOU EVERYTHING YOU NEED

Jesus Christ offers to YOU everything you need to come out of the pit ~ and to keep you from falling back into it. He has done everything for you, but will not do anything contrary to your will. You must first draw near to God by calling upon Him and He will then draw near to you and lift you out of the horrible pit (Acts 2:21). You might ask: “But what if I refuse?” Then you refuse ~ and stand to lose everything that is worthwhile. Consider again what Jesus said (and says): “What shall it profit you, if you gain the whole world, and lose your own soul?”

DON’T ARGUE WITH GOD!

If you will not let Jesus lift you up out of the horrible pit you are in right now, then in the next life (eternity) you will be thrown into a deeper pit far worse than anything you can imagine (Psalm 9:17; Proverbs 15:24; Isaiah 14:15; Matthew 23:29-33 and Luke 12:5). How do I know this? Jesus said so and warned us very clearly about the reality of hell ~ and I am not going to argue with Jesus! (You won’t either if you have any sense).

I KNOW IT IS TRUE

The testimony of David is true. I know because Jesus Christ has done it for me too. What the Lord did for David in approximately 1060 B.C. He did for me in 1960 A.D. He certainly is true to His Word ~ and faithful too! My life was changed for the better and I now live to help others discover there is a better way than that which the world has to offer. It is found only in the Person of Jesus Christ, God’s Son, and He waits for you right now to cry unto Him and ask Him to lift you out of your horrible pit ~ to save, cleanse and forgive you of all your sins. He will give you a definite purpose in life, fill you with His love and peace, and use you to bring glory to His Name. Amen.

WILL YOU PRAY THIS PRAYER?

“Dear Lord, having read this message and realizing that I am indeed in an horrible pit, I cry unto You in Jesus’ name to deliver me out of the life I have been living, to save and cleanse me. Make me to know my soul has been found by Jesus and that I shall now live for You all the days of my life. Thank You. This I ask in Your own Blessed and Worthy Name, the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.”

If you have prayed this prayer, and meant it with all your heart, and you now know that the Lord Jesus has come into your heart and life, why not take the time to make contact with us and tell us all about it. We would love to hear from you. Thank you.
