Getting You Down?
By Rodney W. Francis
OUR WORLD TODAY is being deluged with all manner of information that seeks to equip us to handle the complexities of life in the 21st century. How things have changed in even the last 10 years — exciting to some, frightening to others. The pace of living is continually speeding up, bringing with it an increasing number of pressures. It is all meant to be improving our lot in life, but often, far too often, society is being forced to pay an extremely high price for its actions. We have become a world of self-interests, pleasure seeking (including drinking, drugs, immorality and the following of sports to the point of idolatry), where crime and lawlessness wend their ever-increasing way into the very fibre of society. Radios, newspapers, television and politicians all pour out their programmes, seeking to out-do one another — but where is it taking us?
Do we no longer stop and think that it might be a vicious treadmill heading us in the direction of destruction? Do we no longer have any high values to strive for? Do we not care anymore?
Does it not concern us that humanity is being "sold down the drain" because our minds have been blinded by "the god of this world"? That's how the Bible describes it: "In whom the god of this world has blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious Gospel of Christ, Who is the image of God, should shine unto them" (2 Corinthians 4:4 ). Strange that, the Bible has us humans all summed up. I wonder why we don't take more notice of it than we do ...
On top of the regular flow of secular information, we are constantly confronted by a whole flood of religious propaganda — all offering peace, answers, the way to fulfilment and heaven. "There are many ways to God," they all seem to say.
What do YOU think about all this? Does it concern you? — or do you not stop and think?
WHAT ABOUT FAMILY LIFE?
The family is the very core of our civilisation. There is something within each of us that yearns for companionship, to belong and be secure in a family. Yet this beautiful institution is being shattered today by the very things mentioned in this leaflet. Our families are being wrecked through booze, drugs, sex, greed and selfishness. It is not funny anymore — almost one out of every two marriages is ending in divorce. These alarming facts show us that man on his own cannot effectively control even the environment he desires most. The result is a world full of dis-orientated, bitter people who simply do not know what life is all about.
"Well, what is it all about?" some hurting person demands.
LIFE IS FOUND IN A PERSON
Life is not found in personal gratification. Life is not found in the best of education, although that does help one to get ahead. Life is not found in things, or in worldly pleasures, or in becoming the best sports-person in the world. It's not even in becoming the owner of great riches.
Life is in a Person, a very special Person. One who the world for centuries has tried to forget, to do away with, to deny - but He simply won't go away (because He loves us so much!). Who is He?
His name is JESUS!
Yes, JESUS CHRIST! He is the Only One Who has the Answers for YOU. He came to give His life at Calvary's Cross to take away all your sin, rebellion and disobedience to Father God. When we acknowledge Him, confess Him with our mouth and receive Him into our heart, HE FORGIVES US.
Something wonderful happens!
God's peace becomes ours in reality!
He changes us!
We become aware that God is REAL and Jesus is ALIVE!
YOU can find Him right now by calling upon His name and confessing your need of His help. Reach out to Him. Say this prayer: . . .
"Lord Jesus, I've made a mess of my life through my own selfishness and greed. I come to You at this moment, repenting of all my sins against You. Forgive me, Lord. Step into my life right now, and change me for Your glory. Let me experience the peace and joy of sins forgiven, which only You can give me. Thank You, Lord Jesus. I do love You, and want to love You more and more. This I ask in Your own worthy name, Amen.”
Believe that prayer and start living for God every day. Write and tell us what you’ve done. We will try and help you to progress further in the faith that is found in Christ Jesus. God bless you.
